Accidental damage: If equipment is accidentally damaged during normal play, the academy will bear the cost of repair or replacement without penalties to the player. Repeated negligence: In cases where a player consistently shows negligence towards equipment, they may face disciplinary action, including temporary suspension from sessions. 5. Safety standards The safety of all players is our priority, and we take measures to ensure that equipment is safe and appropriate for use. Size and weight of equipment: Basketballs and other training materials will be age-appropriate. For example, younger children will use smaller and lighter basketballs to facilitate skill development. • Parent Involvement and Sideline Behavior Policy
Our academy encourages active parental involvement, recognizing that supportive families are key to fostering a positive environment for young athletes. However, we also recognize the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect during training sessions and games. This policy outlines the expectations and responsibilities of parents when attending academy events and supporting their children. 1. Purpose The purpose of this policy is to establish clear guidelines for parent involvement in the academy and to ensure that all sideline behavior positively contributes to the development of players and the academy's mission. 2. General expectations for parents Parents are vital to the success and well-being of their children, and we welcome their participation in the academy's activities. However, it is important that parental involvement is respectful and supportive of the players, coaches, and officials. Parents are expected to: Encourage, not criticize: Offer positive reinforcement to all players, not just your child. Avoiding criticizing players, coaches, referees, or other parents during games or practices. Trust the coaches: Allow coaches to coach. Avoid giving instructions or directions to players during training or games. Trust that the coaching staff has the expertise and authority to manage the team. Respect officials and referees: Avoid arguing with referees or questioning their decisions. All officials must be treated with respect, even if you disagree with their calls. Promote good sportsmanship: Model good sportsmanship by clapping for both teams, showing respect to the opposing team, and refraining from negative remarks. 3. Sideline behavior during games During games, it is crucial that parents maintain a positive and non-disruptive presence on the sidelines. The following guidelines apply to all academy events: Stay in designated areas: Parents should remain in the designated spectator areas and not interfere with the team's space, which is reserved for coaches and players. Avoid disruptions: Refrain from shouting instructions or comments that could distract or confuse players. Negative comments towards referees, coaches, or opposing players are not permitted. No coaching from the sidelines: Coaching is the responsibility of the academy staff. Parents should not provide instructions or advice to players during games or practices. This can cause confusion and undermine the coaching process. Respectful communication: If you have concerns about game decisions or coaching strategies, address them privately and respectfully after the game with the coach or academy management, rather than during the game. 4. Parental communication with coaches We encourage open and respectful communication between parents and coaches. However, to maintain a constructive relationship, parents should adhere to the following guidelines: Set a meeting: If you need to discuss your child's progress, concerns, or any issues, please request a meeting with the coach at an appropriate time. Avoid approaching coaches immediately after games or during practices, as their focus is on the team. Respect coach's decisions: Understand that coaches make decisions in the best interest of the team. This includes decisions regarding playtime, positions, and strategy. While feedback is welcome, questioning or undermining these decisions during a game is discouraged. Wait 24 hours: If you have strong emotions about a game or a coach's decision, we encourage a ”24-hour cool-down period” before addressing the issue. This allows for more constructive communication. 5. Addressing concerns If parents have concerns regarding their child's experience at the academy, there is a clear process for addresing those concerns: Step 1 - Speak with the coach: Schedule a time to talk with the coach to discuss your concern calmly and privately. Most issues can be resolved through open dialogue. Step 2 - Contact the academy Customer support department: If the concern cannot be resolved with the coach, parents may bring the issue to the academy's Customer support department. All discussions will remain confidential, and our Customer support department will work towards a resolution. 6. Consequences for inappropriate sideline behavior To maintain a positive and safe environment for all players, parents who violate the academy's behavior expectations will face consequences. Depending on the severity of the behavior, the following steps may be taken: First offense - verbal warning: The parent will receive a verbal warning from the coach or academy management about inappropriate behavior. Second offense - written warning: A formal written warning will be issued, and the parent may be asked to sit out a game or a training session. Third offense - temporary ban: The parent may be temporary banned from attending games or practices for a specified period. Severe or repeated offense - permanent ban: In cases of severe misconduct or repeated violations, the parent may be permanently banned from attending academy events. This includes cases of physical aggression, threats, or severe disrespect towards coaches, officials, or other parents. 7. Involvement in academy activities We welcome parents who wish to contribute positively to the academy through volunteering or other roles. Parents can get involved in various ways: Fundraising events or collecting donations: Volunteer to help with fundraising efforts and collecting donations to support the academy's social initiatives. 8. Support your child's development The academy is committed to helping your child grow as and athlete and a person. You can support their development by: Encouraging hard work: Reinforce the importance of effort, teamwork, and a positive attitude, rather than focusing solely on winning. Promoting healthy habits: Help your child maintain a balanced routine with good nutrition, rest, and a healthy balance between schoolwork and basketball. Being present: Show your support by attending games and events, but always remember that the focus should be on your child's enjoyment and development in the sport. 9. Special events and awards We encourage parents to attend special events, such as awards ceremonies for end-of-season banquets. These events are designed to celebrate the achievements of all players and promote community spirit within the academy. 10. Agreement to policy By enrolling your child in our academy, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Parent Involvement and Sideline Behavior Policy. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to helping us create a positive and supportive environment for all of our players.
